Max is a visual node-based programming language for music and multimedia projects. It is usually utilized by artists who builds audio-visual performances and installations. Using Max, this project attempts to break the boundary between the performer and the audience that is existent in a typical AV performance. The program generates immersive audio-visual environment where the audience decides what the program should output. The installation consists of a projector (for image), a pair of speakers (for audio), and a set of individually-addressable LED strips controlled through Arduino. Max’s built-in User Interface provides control over all of the components in a form of a 3×4 matrix.
Max patch I made accepts any video/audio files for its input. For audio in this run, I used my DJ mix (vinyl+digital) I recroded around a month ago. For video, I used an excerpt from the BBC documentary about humpback whales.
I want to thank everyone in this class for your support and advice I have received throughout the last 7 weeks of this term. It was a great pleasure to be part of this wamring and collaborative environment.
