Elena’s Concept Proposal

I am trying to decide between three different ideas.

Painting With Fun Paints

I’m in the middle of a series of paintings using “the blackest black” matte paint in combination with metallic paints. I have some more ideas for the series that I would like to try, but I’m not sure if that’s enough for this class considering I’ve already done a bunch of these.

Diorama

Some kind of overgrown technology look, repurposing defunct robot parts/machining scrap I have in my apartment and putting some fake moss on them. I made a silicone LED mushroom to test out this look.

Luminescent Fauna

Some kind of abstract animal that lights up and I can put on the wall. I’m imagining some nice ambient flickering to the LEDs on the inside, probably fairy lights if I can find ones with the right color and control.

I’m not sure which project to do, please help me decide.

I liked the idea that was proposed in class about somehow making the creature move. Also, if you want a piece that could be hung on a wall you could put the creature, mushrooms, and whatever else in a laser cut shadow box and paint it with the super black paint.

Hi Elena, as it was discussed in class, it would be interesting to merge the mushroom and paper mache ideas. It could be cute to make a habitat for a little paper mache bug or animal.

I think it would be cool to combine both. Possibly making a larger fungi/flower and creating a small bug on it, could potentially look cool and also save on time, rather than making a large glowing environment.

Hi Elena, I think it would be cool to combine both ideas similar to how people suggested in class. Maybe use paper mache to create a background for the light up mushrooms!

I love the idea of luminescent fauna because it seems very whimsical and playful. I agree with Taylor that it would be cool to make the creature move somehow, maybe with a servo or a sensor. Imagine they form a matrix and move like a breathing wave

Great ideas here! I agree with the majority on that you should try incorporating both concepts in your project. You can create a bouquet of exterrestrial flower/plants/fungi in the form of a wall fixture. I think it is very unique way of making an art object that can serve as a wall mounted light source.

I think it would be a great idea to combine both the second idea and last idea. Like a creature with plants in its body.
