Description:
I am Aiming for a Bioluminescent fairy forest, the background has technically been painted. But I was unsure of where to go from there, so I have been experimenting on tree types and objects digitally.
Considerations:
Definite- I want to include a glow stone path, some fireflies (for the night scene), various glowing mushrooms, and some fairies based on different types of flowers. I am looking for a way to incorporate a water source for the village
Maybe’s- I don’t know how I feel about the type of tree I have included. I am considering adjusting the tree to be a willow tree. The hill house that is sketched maybe the home for a mole or bunny? Possible the food storge. In my opinion it doesn’t seem like a fairy house which is what I originally intended for it to be.

Issues:
I am not super fond of the background. I think the background trees should have more of a tree shape. they currently look like odd logs. Work in Progress. I want to have more of the foreground figured out before I adjust the background.
I am struggling with ideas for different types of house’s. I don’t like the mushroom house idea but, I like the tree house. I am going to have to come up with some other types and shapes of homes because I don’t want them all to share the same resemblance.
I am also Struggling to picture how the ground foliage will look. I tried to incorporate a bush. maybe it’s the shape of it I don’t like but I don’t think I am going to keep it to
From some of the research I did with UV Light, I found that it is really beneficial to have both sides look very similar to each other/plan out areas that will convey different meanings. For example, a simple flower during the day may turn into an overgrown and thriving plant when in UV light. If you have a vision for what you want the painting to look like in the UV light, try seeing if you can make minor adjustments to them for the regular lighting, such as making a colorful fairy into a tree branch when in regular light.
I like the bush and the idea of having shorter foliage or ferns. For the houses you could try to make them dependent upon where they are placed and take inspiration from how animals live in those different places.
It might help to look at references of different types of forests to get an idea for undercover (ferns, shrubs, etc). I know it’s a fanciful setting you could still base it off of a tropical or temperate rainforest, or some other type of distinct forest biom. The forests in the northeast look a lot different from the mid atlantic, for instance. I always thought the mossy temperate rainforests in the pacific northwest had kind of a magical vibe.
Hi Carley! I think it is really smart that you digitally drew on the next step to figure out what the final plan would be. You mentioned that you arent really liking how certain things would look like the trees and ground foliage. If you have extra paint and mini canvases, maybe it would be easier to visualize and test if you were to do smaller or simplified versions of them using the paint. That way you could see how they look together, and how much detail would be required to get your desired output.
