Background is officially complete Now we are onto the foreground
I am Moving onto the houses and getting to the point where I will be adding the glow paint very soon! Super excited for that. for the housing I tried to paint some with a Remarkable fail. So I have sketched some stencils I am planning to use in order to put what I’m trying to put in without the novice look. I am working on some fairy stencils as well! The peach houses are my favorite!
Mushroom House Variety
Considering making the largest mushroom house a bit smaller than this? I might keep it this size though.

Big Peach House
Little Peach Houses
You can’t tell but I did try to paint this. It looked awful so I covered it up

The painting looks very vibrant and pretty! One possible idea that could be cool is that I noticed in the painting there are these dark spots in the background. You could potentially add some glow in the dark paint to give off an aurora borealis type feel, when the lights are off. I wouldn’t make the whole background colorful when exposed to no light, but I think it would be a cool addition to the mystical look you are hoping to achieve.
I really like how it looks so far. Currently, the background is darker than the foreground which is unexpected and adds to the ethereal glowy feel.
I switched my words in my previous post. I meant background is lighter than foreground
I like the layering you have in your painting so far, I can’t wait to see how it turns out! The fairy houses are really cute, I have never painted with stencils but I think that makes a lot of sense, especially for such a large canvas.
Hi Carley, the background and sketches look great! Good luck with implementing the houses, I’m excited to see how the glow in the dark paint looks!
It’s great to see the design coming together!
Stencils are fun! If you know how to use the laser cutter, you can cut mylar which makes very nice stencils – or good old X-acto knives work well too. I’ve seen folks cut them out of thin cardboard like cereal boxes too. Just keep in mind that stencils work best for “patches” of color and fine lines can be tricky as too small details tend to fall off the stencil. You can layer multiple stencil passes in different colors although keeping them lined up can be challenging. The best results I’ve seen for crisp stencil painting is by using spray adhesive to stick the stencil down so no paint bleeds under the edges, and blotting on the paint with a cotton ball. Make sure to do some practice tests before you do them on your painting to get the technique.
The background looks amazing!! Also the peach houses you drew look super cute, so I am sad you did not like them ahaha. Im excited to see the final!!
