I originally thought the hardest part of the project would be connecting all of the wires and dealing with them with the LED’s so I decided to test them first. I did his legs and surprisingly got it to work first try. I was able to put the LED’s inside of the EVA foam pretty easily and the light spreads pretty well for what I thought was going to be a really difficult task. However while working with this I had a few issues with something different, The Button.
(Unfortunately since I thought the LED’s was going to be the issue I didn’t take pictures of the button failing)
I originally created a small button that had wires soldered to them and would be placed on my finger.
My main issue while working was that the button was extremely fragile.
When placed on to my finger the button’s wire would sometimes just rip off completely. I would then have to cut some of the old wire to the re-solder the wire back to another pin of the button. Imagine doing this loop 5 times. I realized that this method wasn’t really viable as I would be moving around with the costume on and having a button this fragile wont work. This is when I remembered I bought a Mini Relay a while back and haven’t used it yet.
I was able to fix my issue of having a button on my hand. With this working I can control turning the LED’s on and off with a press of a button.
The project looks really cool so far. I like the way the EVA foam diffuses the lights. As much as wireless stuff can be a pain, I do think it’s better than putting wire and solder in places with a lot of fatigue.
