Concept Proposal – Ana Roure

I have 2 ideas for my final project one that is way bigger than the other.

First idea:

My first idea is to recreate Genji’s cybernetic armor from the video game Overwatch. Why? I feel like this would be a great challenge for me to do and I love this character and have always been interested in doing his costume.

This project wont really change overtime unless I have to change plans based on time constraints. I would be 3D printing a lot of parts like his helmet, sword, etc. I would then make the armor parts out of mostly EVA foam and other materials similar to it. I would then wire LED lights to each area. The idea is not to fully recreate his armor since I know I wont really have enough time to fully do it but give it a Light Balance style to it. Where you can see his areas that are green in the dark. In his cinematic short you can see what my idea is.

Look at minute 3:03 for example

I already started by making the hilts of the katana and his helmet!

Second Idea:

The second idea is to recreate a hologram device like those from starwars

I recently learned how to work with the illusion of “holograms” and I would basically just make a small container where the hologram will be placed. If you are curious on how it would work I attached a video where it explains how they work.

Artist question:

Do you think I would have enough time to do project 1? If not, what can you suggest to make the process faster? Or should I just go with project 2?

To make the project less ambitious, you could make the armor from the waist up and create a video showcasing it that is shot from the waist up.

Hi Ana, I think you should work on the first project idea to create armor because you seem to be really passionate about it and as you said you’ve always wanted to make it!

I think you would have enough time, depending on the time you spend on other classes. One question I have is if you looked into possible other skins for genji. I know it might be too late, but I know that there are a lot of skins for genji that could potentially look cool, while also having less armor you would need to print.

Honestly I looked at other genji skins like his Blackwatch one or his sparrow one but they dont have as many LED’s around his armor as his classic one. I also considered his OW2 skin as an option.

Hi Ana, from your presentation it made it seem like you had a lot more passion and interest for the first idea. Maybe if time is a constraint, you could focus on only recreating certain portions of the armour!

I like how you have already started making some parts of the armor and how you plan to use LED lights to create a Light Balance style effect. I think you would have enough time to do this if you focus on the most essential parts of the armor.
