I wanted to create a shadow box where the art was influenced by South Asian culture. I have recently been missing a part of my heritage in my day to day life, and I wanted to center my art around it.
I was hoping to create a shadow box using really thin wood or maybe even acrylic and colored LEDs. I wanted to test out the detail or shapes I could use if I decided to laser cut, so I did a mini test run using 1/8 and a simple design. It turned out well in terms of detail, but I think I would prefer to use a thinner material. For the background of the shadow box, I was picturing using an architectural structure. I am hoping to add some detail with the light shining through, similar to the picture on the left. For the front or center of the shadow box, I wanted to have a south asian woman with cultural jewelry and flowers. I am hoping to have the jewels and white flowers be the lightest portion of the shadow box.
Not super detailed, but I made a basic sketch of what I was picturing with the shadow box. One of the things I was debating was the material for the shadow box.
Concept 2 – LED Sign
For the second concept, I wanted to create a series of LED signs. Ideally, I would make some sort of base and then laser cut on acrylic sheets.
I was hoping to share a story through doing this. Although which exact story is something I am in the process of deciding. The first story line would be what anxiety and having a panic attack feels like and then goes into the process of coming back down and centring yourself. The second story line is something I have been exploring with my art more recently, and it is tapping into your feminine energy.
Since it would be multiple laser cuts, I was debating either having one LED base and then making the acrylic sheets interchangeable, or doing something with multiple acrylic sheets and have different LEDs showing the different pieces.
If you are interested in combining ideas, you could create an acrylic piece about femininity and South Asian culture. I think it would be cool to do an animated piece like the professor suggested.

I think the shadow box idea is really cool. If you wanted to, you could also potentially use the shadow box as a way to tell your story in Concept 2.

I think concept 2 (LED signs) would be cool to do! I love the idea of telling a story with the LED signs and i think it would be sick to see
