My name is Olivia Peterson. I am from Shelton, CT. I am a junior Electrical and Computer Engineering major. In my current life, art is something that I like to look at and learn about. I enjoy going to art galleries as well as looking at art online. Specifically, I really like abstract art and am interested to see how I can relate my major to this interest in this course. For my life goals for art, I’d like to continue to learn about art and I have a list of museums I’d like to visit, some places on that list include the MET, MoMA, and the National Gallery of Art.
My experience with art comes from the numerous art classes I’ve taken from grammar school to college. At WPI, I’ve gained experience with drawing as well as editing and painting in photoshop. I also enjoy photography. I’ve also had experience with programming an Arduino and have electronics skills like circuit analysis and soldering because of my major. I’ve never applied electronics to art before, just to more “practical” applications but I am excited to explore.

My creative inspirations come from the world around me. I really enjoy documenting the places I go through photography. Additionally, when I draw I like to use the objects around me because of the sheer convenience of the object and it gives you an added appreciation for it. Also, my favorite art movement is abstract expressionism and I really enjoy the freedom that it gives people. It’s freedom for the artist to make whatever they want and its freedom to the viewer to allow it to mean anything they want or nothing at all.

I really haven’t been working on too many art projects lately because I was just on IQP. I’ve mostly just been photographing the world around me. Most recently I took AR2700: Digital Painting, a few of those works can be seen below. I’m excited for this term so that I can explore what light art is and how I can create some of my own.

Hi Olivia,
If I had to pick one badge, I would award you with the ‘colorful’ badge. I especially love the piece with the leaves!
familiar – your photos are gorgeous and feel familiar due to the popular landmarks and identifiable objects.
Shiny – I think you did a really nice job with the shiny water droplets on leaves, that’s a cool drawing.
I agree with @EBACHMAN, such nice shiny water droplets with the reflections!
Badge ~ “Gorgeous”
First, I like your dedication to travel to other countries. Secondly, both of your pictures taken are from different angles and rightfully so, some objects have a “correct” angle to take the picture from.
Hi Olivia!
Id like to give you the – gorgeous – badge! The photography is great, the shadows on the pillow case drape it is perfect. Finally the leaves sketch is my favorite!
I see through your art how iterative and energy-deanding the process of sketching actually is! My favorite piece is “Leaves, 2020” and how neatly you combined B/W with color. I would give you a shiny badge!
