Hello, my name is Santiago Giraldo Godoy. Light Through My Lens is the name of my project. The idea behind it was to show the viewers a little of what I see when I look at a location for my pictures. I have been an amateur photographer for a little over 2 years now, and I have found out a lot about my photography style during this time.

As a photographer, I like to take pictures of the little things that we often overlook in the day-to-day. I attempt to capture the beauty in the ordinary, highlighting textures, locations, or lighting of different subjects. I attempt to see the beauty in all aspects of life.

Another big aspect that I incorporate in most of my photographs is the color that is shown. Color is a big part of every photographer, even when taking black and white pictures, the darkness or lightness of the colors impacts the picture. A big element of this project was Color theory, experimenting with how different lighting interacts with each other.

With this project, I want to explain what I see when I look at different locations that most people would find ordinary. I like to see the potential of a location for what it could be, there are many aspects that can improve locations for photography purposes, lighting, subject, weather, and composition, among many others.

When taking a photograph I always consider its past, present, and future. Any object, subject, or place is not only what you see in the moment, it contains the potential to keep changing, and the history of the previous experiences.

When I see through my lens I don’t only see what is in front of me, I consider all of the different elements that I have listed before, and all of that rushes through my mind. All of this project is a combination and representation of all the concepts. To appreciate the photography and art in this project is not enough to see the results as the process is an important aspect of the artwork.
