For my maquette, I made a small scale (4″x4″) painting and played with how different lights on it. There was one picture taken with blue LEDs and one taken with red LEDs. Some aspects of the painting appeared/disappeared based on what color LED I was using. This color playfulness is quite to me, and I think I may continue with this path of the colors instead of the animation, or maybe combine them so one half of the painting is in blue light and one half is in red light, and the animation is on both of them.

I also think that for the final I will make one red painting and one blue painting, and together in normal light they are abstract, but once there is either blue/red light a picture is revealed.
For my shopping list, I already have the paints and canvas I want to use. The only thing I am anticipating buying are some gels. I’m going to buy this set from Amazon, which should take about two days to deliver. I’ll be using my white projector light with them, instead of LEDs like I used to do the test images.
I love the idea of playing with two images on one canvas! I also particularly like it because it is pretty low tech. My question is what are you going to make the pictue of? will it stay abstract? I like the idea of the abstract art a lot, but you also could play around with a lot of cool ideas like two opposite forms, two forms that maybe blend into eachother, a transition like something growing, a lot of options!
I love the idea of two images in one. I think that this can lead to some really awesome artwork that has many layers to it. I also just love the painting you have as your maquette is so gorgeous. I think that one way that might help perfectly get the colors to disappear would be to do test with paint in the light of the color that it is. This way you can see if you can see the paint before you commit to a full piece. Do you plan on your animation switching back and forth between the two colors or just transitioning once.
Your abstract piece is so beautiful! It almost looks like it could be a final piece in another class. The only question I have is what you decided to do with the animation? Are you going to do something abstract or something with story?
I really like your abstract art! It has this ethereal feeling to it, and the changing colors just adds to it. Do you plan on adding a 4th color to stand out in both the red and blue paintings? What feeling are you aiming for with the colored light?
