Getting Things Working – Week 6

This week I made a Target run and bought some glowsticks, because I had an idea of using some form of light stick to fill larger areas of space with colored light. I got around 150 of them in varying colors and sizes. Some of them are shown below:

This first week I took a LOT of photos, but only a few of them came out. The one I’m probably most proud of is the one where I had my friend Jacob wave a glowstick behind Lily’s head for a cool sort of fan outline effect. Having a second pair of hands was a huge help because I was able to focus on operating the camera and flash, especially now that flash had to be entirely separate to get still shots of her and so that she was lit enough for the camera to pick up since the glowsticks were much dimmer than the fairy lights.

Another one I’m debating on putting in the final is this rainbow shot. I really like how she is posed and lit and how the light worked in this image, but the image itself is of low quality.

Finally, I really liked this image Jacob had the idea for; using glowsticks, we recreated Lily as Nyan Cat, the toaster pastry cat that flies through space and shoots a rainbow out from behind it.

Finishing and Polishing – Week 7

Most of my final week was spent photoshopping to clean up my final images as well as working on final presentation method. I did, however, get a really nice image of Lily with some glowstick rainbow wings behind her.

The above image was fairly heavily photoshopped to darken the background as much as possible and make the focus solely on her and the wings. I used the below image for practice.

Finally, it came down to presentation. I wanted the option to see the images both virtually and physically, so I went to Walmart and got a frame collage set. However, I had five horizontal photos I wanted to use and only four slots, so I got two identical frames to those used in the collage set and extended it.

After putting it all together, I tied the collage together by decorating it with the fairy lights I used in some of the pictures.

The photos with the glow sticks are coming out so good! I am amazed with your ability to stick with this vision through the whole term, work consistently on it, and have it all pay off beautifully
