Everything Working

on

This week I got my hands on color gel filters and cut them to fit the shape of my flashlight. That means I can finally have some green leaves, and use practically any other color I want. I went to Wachusett Mountain and found what I thought was a good spot to do the final piece. However, it got dark really quick on the mountain. I was completely surrounded by trees, so that didn’t help. I think for my final piece, I will look for a spot with less tree cover so that I can get a better photograph with an actual background.

My favorite final photo

This is one of my favorite light paintings so far. If I can’t get something that looks this good by Monday the 9th, I am going to consider photoshopping in a background for the tree. It’s not “against the rules” but most light painters prefer using minimal photo editing. That’s why I’m saving it as a last resort. Here are some others I made:

I like how I stayed further away from the camera on these ones. If only I lined up the trunk correctly. Although it does appear that the tree could be branching off at the discontinuous section, at least on the photo above.

The leaves look great! I think leaving editing as a last resort is a good idea too. Even though most light painters don’t edit their photos, we are not professionals and i think your pictures could look really good.

I love the progress you have made over the weeks, and I think using photoshop and editing stuff together will do you well.

I like the look of the leaves on the tree, and I think using the leaf light was an excellent idea for this project. I think using Photoshop in this project is fine, especially if it is just to refine the light paintings that you make, and it will add some great final touches to your paintings.

These photos look really good, the leaves came out very clear, and I can easily tell you were going for a tree in the light drawings.
