Everything is(!) Working – Stevie Frisch

After successfully gutting the magnet that was in the camera light I had bought, I was easily able to secure the light to my drone using zip ties, and an old tripod adapter I had sitting around. All it took to remove was a hard pry from a knife and it came right off.

Getting the drone up in the air wasn’t much of a challenge after that. Flying the drone at night was not an easy feat, though. Even though I feel I have plenty of experience flying this drone, it felt like a whole different set of controls, especially at night. The light on the drone was putting it into “attitude” mode, a mode that turns the drone full throttle in high-wind situations to avoid flyaways.

The first two locations I went to were a swamp and old stone church. I learned three very important things that night: First, having a subject is a lot more important than it first seemed. Second, a subject with a substantial amount of light is usually too exposed for any exposure long enough to trace a long path with a drone. Finally, the drone, even though very bright, is still not bright enough even at distances of 100 feet. Here’s two of the photos that came out of that night:

I also did a shoot with my car, where the drone was much closer to the camera. Here’s one of those photos from that:

There are definitely some cool shots from this shoot.

I’m hoping to get a lot more up-close shots, maybe a human model and some small trees. I’m pretty happy with how it’s been going and think this final week will come out great.

I really like the shots with the car. It reminded me of a car commercial with the type of lighting surrounding the car. I also like how half of the car is also covered since its in the dark.

I really like the colourgrading in that last shot. It looks like it could be a movie poster or the end shot of a car commercial

Everything is looking amazing, I agree with others comments about the car photo, it is very dynamic and interesting. I’m excited to see what you do for the final project/photos.

I really like the last photo of the car. As discussed in class, the photos that utilize reflective surfaces look great. The color grading of the final photo looks really good too.

Like everyone else, I also really like the shot of the car, I feel like it has kind of an extraterrestrial feel to it.

My favorite photo is the first one because I think the reflections on the water look really cool. I’m also impressed by how well the exposures look in all three of your images!
