Introduction and Art Portfolio

My name is Binh Diec and I am a Biomedical Engineering major concentrating in Biomaterials and minoring in Material Science. I am from Randolph, MA, which is about 15-20 minutes south of Boston. I like keeping busy so I am involved in a lot of organizations on campus like: Vice President of Biomedical Engineering Society, Society of Women Engineers, Society of Asian Scientists and Engineers, Peer Learning Mentors, Tau Beta Pi, and Alpha Eta Mu Beta. I also play club volleyball and club ultimate frisbee.

I was not a very artistic person until I reached high school where I took some art classes like painting and modern art. I am still not super talented in art, but I have a very good imagination and drive. I have learned to appreciate art and just simple little things in life everyday. Lately, I have not been able to do as much art due to lack of time, but if I could I would practice more painting and using art as an outlet for expressing my emotions. If I were to start putting time aside for art, then I would try to do explore realistic paintings or trying to practice my figure drawing.

I have had some experience with art making in terms of painting, digital art, and figure drawing. Some of my best work is below:

I have not used programming, electronics, or other tech for art purposes. One time I took a class where I programmed a ultrasonic sensor that would change the color of an LED light when something was in a 6 in range. The LED would smoothly transition between the rainbow colors, when something is within the range it starts flashing brightly. Otherwise, I usually avoid having to code or work with a lot of technology, but I am open to learning more about it.

Outside of art, I enjoy and listen to all types of music. I like music that has a story because I like connecting with emotions within the song. I am the type of person that always has to sing along to a good song (even though I’m a really bad singer) or listens to movie soundtracks.

When I think of creating an artwork, I am big on colors, telling a story, or making a scene. Otherwise, I am inspired by the things around me or what is happening in my life. I don’t really have specific things that inspire my art since I don’t create art often.

Gorgeous – The use of color in many of your works is really well done. The usage of color alone makes the pieces really wonderful to look at, and I found it capturing my attention more the more I looked at it. I quite like that one you made of some celestial bodies in space. Super colorful and fun to explore!
