To start with the obvious, the main issue I ran into was merely not being as productive as I had planned. It was a very hectic week for various reasons, so I ended up thinking about the project more than anything. This had some clear upsides and downsides, downsides being I’m a bit behind now, and this week will be a bit of catch up. It also means I do have some questions still unanswered. The upside, is I do have a pretty good idea of what needs to be done, and I also came to the proper realization that I really need to stop planning so much and get to testing. So I’ve since stopped the (possibly) excessive planning and will be moving into full production swing this week.
Upsides that happened, was first I was able to get my hands on some El Wire to run tests with! It gave me a lot of information I was looking for. One is that the El Wire itself should be plenty of light for the box. Second, using El Wire to light a textured background will likely not work. This gives me a few alternatives outside of scrapping the idea. First is to rotate out the El Wire for some LEDs instead, which I do have on the way to test. The other two options, would be manipulate the El Wire to create a simple pattern for the backdrop. Finally, the last option would be a combination of those two ideas, giving a simple pattern to be put around a pattern of El Wire, to give it an extra effect.
Outside of the background problem, I have formed an idea of how to build the interior structures. Shown below, are my current plans for the design, and eventual printing of the objects. I plan to create some tests of these asap and get the idea ironed out, so implementation can be focused more on putting the pieces together and less about actually making the pieces.
