Minecraft Block : Tests and Iterations

Kevin Doan and Liam Stearns

During this week of testing Kevin and I had made significant progress towards finalizing block functionality. Firstly, we have moved on to using Neo magnets for making electrical connections between led strips and the Arduino. When testing the Neo magnets, soldering them caused them to lose some of their magnetism. Because of this, we have chosen to have some more magnets with some used for the electrical connection and to align the blocks.

In addition to changing the connection between the blocks, we had also changed to using an addressable RGB LED strip. Initially, our plan had been to use individual LEDs in each block, however; we feared issues with brightness as we add more blocks to the equation. By using pieces of an led strip, we are able to have more control over lighting effects and peace of mind in terms of scalability. As of now, we are currently redesigning the cube to secure the led strip and the magnets.
