So right now I don’t have anything to practice the electrical part except for an ultrasonic sensor so I set up something to prove that I can control LEDs through a system using distance as a parameter instead of sound. I also added a buzzer to temporarily replace the heartbeat sounds. Right now the lights are set up to light up with distance however I am currently messing around with how to code it so that they will light up in a certain order in a repetitive patterns.
Shopping list
- EL wire
- inverter
- shadow box
- more resistors
- possibly a Micromini Relay 5V
- sound sensor (if I continue to go with sound instead of distance)
- speaker
Schedule
- rest of week 1: focus on coding the LED to understand how to create a relay and wait for everything to come in
- week 2: start the process of building the model with the EL wire and attaching it to Arduino
- week 3: test project and tweak it (see if distance or sound is better)
- week 4: Incorporate any final implementations and finalize project
- week 5: continue finalization and documentation of project
Even if it does still have a ways to go, seeing the progress you’ve made on the electronics side of the project was really cool! Cable management will be quite interesting, but I would imagine once you have the heart frame it’ll be easier to fit everything neatly somewhere. I know nothing about working with wires and electronics, so all I can say is that it’s quite cool and I’m excited to see how it progresses!
I like all the different layers that you are incorporating into your piece. I am excited to see how the EL wire comes out and how you figure out how to make the relay and sound interactions work. I wish I could be of more help but I am the worst at coding.
I am currently taking an Arduino class and can relate to trying to understand the code. Just tinkering around and looking things up is usually the best way to learn.
