A road runs through the upper right corner.\" data-full-url=\"https:\/\/s.w.org\/images\/core\/5.8\/nature-above-02.jpg\" data-link=\"#\" \/><\/figure><\/li><\/ul><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Each layer of wood and paper diffuses and blocks the light coming from the back of the box, creating moody, detailed scenes with a gradient of tones.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Instead of gluing each layer in place, though, I am interested in having these layers be <em>reconfigurable<\/em>. For example, a layer made of two parts like this can be rotated in place by a user:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.joshuarosenstock.com\/teaching\/lightart-a21\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/18\/2021\/09\/mdjohannesen-layer-spin.gif\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.joshuarosenstock.com\/teaching\/lightart-a21\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/18\/2021\/09\/mdjohannesen-layer-spin.gif\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-613\" width=\"-154\" height=\"-159\" \/><\/a><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Here, the light passing through the star hole could be shifted around. The circle would be kept in place by paper in the corners of the frame.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\" \/>\n\n\n\n<p>This idea is fairly open-ended, so I&#8217;m curious to hear everyone&#8217;s thoughts on where this could go.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Would you like to see more types of movement within each layer?<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Does one of the options I showed above for combining layers (pegs through holes in each layer, magnets, or sliding them into a box) stick out as being the most intuitive?<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>I&#8217;d be curious to also cut some small shapes of colored plastic, to add some new shades to the final image.
