These are things that use the brains own programming to make us see something that is not there. Optical illusions come in many different forms from impossible shapes to pictures that seem to move.

While art and optical illusions have crossed paths before I wanted to mix abuse different types of optical illusions and see how far I could take it

Concept 1:

This is the first idea I had and is the idea I want to create most. This was the concept of using the the optical illusion used in this picture.

This cube above appears quite normal at first glance. But when only the center squares from each side are shown it reveals that they are the same color. This is because of one side being in a shadow and the shading around the squares I think. I am still exactly sure how this optical illusion works so I want to look into it more as well.

Concept 2:

When watching other peoples presentation on light artist I was blown away by Carnovsky who are a Milan based art and design duo comprised of Francesco Rugi and Silvia Quintanilla.

This effect is done by printing red green and blue pictures on top of the same canvas. When a red light is shown on the canvas, it will make the entire canvas red. by doing this it will make the red lines seem to disappear and showing what seems to be a different image than before. I think that this same concept could be applied in many different ways that I want to think over more in the future.

By Marco Garcia-Duarte When beginning the idea of what I wanted to do with my light art project I quickly realized my fascination with optical illusions.
