Art fits into my life in a lot of ways, but I wouldn’t say it fits in the classical sense. For example, I don’t much painting or drawing. However, I do believe art still plays a huge role in my life as a part of everything I make or do. I believe that just making things in the STEM field just for a utilitarian purpose isn’t nearly as fun as making them so they look good and perform well. My current goals in life include making sure that whatever I end up doing is not simply utilitarian, but is also artistic and pleasing to use and look at.

I have experience with a variety of digital art mediums including Photoshop, Illustrator, Maya, and SolidWorks (but I don’t know how much that last one really counts). My physical art making experience is a little broader and mostly has do with 3D materials like foam, sewing, and woodworking. I also have a little experience with pastels. When it comes to programming and electronics I have a good bit more experience. I’ve used LEDs and el wire before as well as arduino and other more advanced tech in CS and RBE classes. I also have plenty of experience with rapid prototyping tools such as 3D printing and laser cutting.

Back in highschool I played the double bass and did theater, but it’s been a little while since I’ve either both of those things. I definitely enjoy making crafts, like a bear mascot head I made back in high school and a desk I made for myself this past year. The creative inspiration for the crafts and projects I do usually comes from a combination of necessity and seeing what others have done and thinking I can do better.

Most recently I’m proud of a booth that I built for my room. I decided to build a booth in order to give myself more storage and seating space. The booth itself was made with 2×3 lumber covered in painted plywood. The table in the middle was made with 2x4s as the leg, and laser cut plywood for the top with a pop-up outlet in the middle. This project is still a work in progress as I am planning to add cushions and a few more details, but COVID caused a couple delays for me.

Hello, my name is Colin Scholler and I am from Mountain View, California.
