Janne Parviainen is 39 years old from Helsinki, Finland. Like many other light artists, Janne started with photography and discovered light art by accident when he had forgotten that long exposure was turned on and he noticed he could write text with streetlights by moving the camera while it was exposing. After discovering the Light Junkies flickr group, he was inspired to explore the medium further. Since 2008, Janne has been practicing and perfecting this medium and has been featured in many magazines including the National Geographic, The Guardian, Daily Mail, and many more. Janne uses LED lights of various colors to trace over surfaces and figures, resulting in glowing streaks of light. In order to capture the light paths, he uses the Bulb setting on his camera which allows him to create a long exposure that is longer than 30 seconds. Janne’s idea of light art is, “…not to use any post production to the photo at all, all photos should be straight from the camera.” Janne creates three types of light art: Light Topography, Light Figures, and Installations. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

With Light Topography, the entire room is traced with LEDs in order to create topographical maps of the space. More examples of Janne’s light topography can be seen below.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
