I have a good bit of experience with art. I have been doing pottery for about 4 years and have been involved in film photography, acrylic painting, and charcoal drawing in the past as well as holding leadership positions in Art Club. I also have a reasonable amount of experience with programming and electronics. I was the lead programming/electronics team member on my robotics team for 2 years. I really enjoyed using arduinos to light up the chassi. I am also involved in some other activities I would consider lightly artistic including sewing, dance, and yoga. I am really interested in evolving my pottery and becoming proficient in different techniques, and becoming consistent in my wheel throwing. In the future I hope to open my own studio space for various types of arts in my free time. Art has always been a large part of my life and I hope it stays that way. I want to continue to hone my skills. I have done a few things in the past couple years that I have been reasonably proud of. (1)(2)The first being my final project at the end of my freshman year. I worked on stacking and sets of two in my pottery class and managed to create a set of stacking mugs and wine glasses.

(3) In the middle of my sophomore year I received a little as part of my sorority and had the opportunity to make some crafts for her. Of thosecrafts I am most proud of my textile crafts including fabric roses and home made letter shirts.

At the end of my sophomore year I was lucky enough to be involved in a personal study where I was able to create some original handle designs for mugs. The two I created were meant to combine style and utility in equal parts. They are both designed to look organic and fit in your hand easily. (4)The first one is a simple shape with additions to support your hand, I glazed it in a darker color to mimic an earthier more forest environment.

(5)The second one has a very complicated but continuous handle and is meant to look ethereal but fit seamlessly into your hand.

(6)In that same personal study I worked on making my pottery as thin as possible while maintaining stability and was able to produce a light plate, which was a topic I was struggling with.

(7)Over the summer I began experimenting with organic altered forms. I produced three pieces with this method and plan to continue working with altered forms. (8)Lastly I was able to complete a quilting project with my mom it was a real learning experience for me and I am proud of the result.

I had issues uploading my remaining photos, so here is a link to a drive folder with all of them.

https://drive.google.com/open?id=1Jtrwm7Lc7Vvp5hM3Loz1KrMJnfGdSVfm

Hello, I’m Rachel.
