Hi there! My name is Skye, I go by she/they pronouns, and I’m from Redding, Connecticut. I am a junior in IMGD (BA) hoping to become a game producer, but my skills and interests also cover all types of visual art and game programming. Through this class I hope to exercise my creative concepting skills and improve my versatility as an artist and a designer.
The first time I realized that video game development was a viable career to pursue was in 2015 when I was thirteen years old and discovered scratch.mit.edu. I was deep in the world of creating fanart for my favorite dragon book series and was fascinated by the endless possibilities I could create with crappy pixel art and simple code blocks. I created my most popular game to date (with an audience of a couple thousand easily-impressed ten-year-olds with a very niche interest), a dragon creation and dress-up game.

Though I have been tempted by nostalgia, I haven’t gone back to scratch in over five years. Most of my projects wound up unfinished and unpublished as my interests and game experiments got more complicated, and high school took over time that I could have spent making games.
Still, my passion for artwork and code continued to grow. In high school, I continued to hone my art skills across as many media as I could get my hands on, from regular 2D art to animation, needle felting, resin art, sewing, and 3D sculpture. I continue to use these skills in my artwork today:

My interests, of course, always come back to games in the end. Though I am an art major, I’ve also learned enough code to create simple games such as this:
My most recent project, and by far the one that I am the most proud of, was a mobile game I created on a team of 7 over the summer with MassDigi. I was the producer on the team, and one of the two artists. This meant I was in charge of overseeing the whole project and ensuring that it ran smoothly, as well as collaborating with a very talented artist on 2D art assets and concepts from scratch.
Most art that you can see in the game was done in collaboration with the other artist, though for the most part she was in charge of concepting and I was in charge of rendering and UI art. I have also created promotional art for the game since:

As far as inspirational media goes, I am ironically not the biggest gamer and can’t honestly cite any video games as huge inspirations for me. Looking back on my journey as a consumer and creator of art, I think some of the biggest inspirations that caused me to take my art in a specific direction included the webcomic Ava’s Demon, Tina Yu‘s sculptures and multimedia creations, the new-ish Netflix TV show The Dark Crystal, and the works of old Disney animators and Fleischer cartoons.
That is all! I look forward to making cool things in this class and seeing everyone else’s creations!
I see your post as having a cute style. I really like your real life physical creations.

I really love your graphic novel cover, it definitely stands out the most to me. The coloring and shading on the scales of the serpent work really well and provide stylized yet convincing lighting.
Badge- cute! The needle felting is adorable and the earrings are too.
Quirky
It’s great how you could work on something realistic and something cartoony at the same time.
whoever’s reading this comment should download demigod daycare
You got the cute badge! Your art has a soft feel to it, and the raccoon and the babies are adorable.
Badge: Familiar
I really like how you created callbacks to ancient Greek artwork for some of the pieces. The fonts in particular are instantly recognizable, and I like the mosaic patterning.
Badge: Gorgeous
Your line art and character expressions are very magnificent! The scratch project definitely gave me Wings of Fire nostalgia as well!
Gorgeous – You have an awesomely diverse portfolio here and it’s all gorgeous. No matter the medium you are able to make something amazing, which is super impressive. Also Ava’s Demon slaps.
