Here is my finished NPC model. I think it came out well for the time I had to complete it. Some parts that I think came out particularly well are the facial craters, which look very cleanly edged like a bowling ball, and the limbs, which I think look tree-like and gnarly.I am also quite pleased with the lichen/moss texture that I added in Substance Painter using a lichen material and the manipulation of a smart mask. The limbs in particular look very worn and partially decayed, which I think gives off a “forest spirit” aesthetic. I also think the texture and grain of the wood worked very well for the face, but not so much the body. I think the engravings could have translated better from the low-poly model in ZBrush to Substance Painter.
This is a really unique character! I like how it’s very asymmetrical, it gives it both a cute and slightly creepy appearance. The wood texturing is also really well done, I especially like the carved designs and the moss spread out in different areas.
