Kirsten Roethel: Modular Kit Modeling

My modular kit concept post went over the three kits that I planned on modeling for this assignment: A graveyard kit, a house kit, and a prop kit. I was able to get a good start on each of these kits, as all the main structures and architecture pieces are modeled. There are still a few small props and nature elements that I eventually want to add, but I am planning on having those done in a later pass since I plan to do them in ZBrush instead of Maya (due to their more organic shapes).

The graveyard kit consists of walls and pillars that will make up the exterior surroundings of the area, as well as a gate and archway to allow the player to enter.

The graveyard will also have a mausoleum as a centerpiece, which has its own modular pieces that include walls, windows, a door, a roof, and trim.

Next was the house kit, which included the walls, door, roof, and windows of the house itself, as well as fences and a gate that will surround the area and pumpkin patch.

Finally, the props kit! I had the most fun with this kit, as I was able to do a lot of modeling for smaller objects that will be good for set decorating. The props are for the entire map: the house, the pumpkin patch, the graveyard, the surrounding area, and the secret wood alchemist. Some props that are in the kit are gravestones, a coffin, a table, potions, pumpkins, a lantern, a cauldron, books, and more!

I still have some unwrapping to do before moving to textures, but I’m happy with the models that I have so far! I’m also excited to do more natural shapes in ZBrush. Some of the models I still hope to do are a skull, trees, rocks, leaf piles, scrolls, a scarecrow, and a crow. Hopefully I’ll have the time!
