
The above was a personal piece I did last year that I was really happy with in terms of execution and concept. The basic idea was an airship that was overgrown and integrated with plants called the Volans Gaia that air pirates used as their base of operations. I simplified the design to be feasible in 3D within 7 weeks given my lack of experience.
I’m a JRPG fiend, so I’m thinking of this game as a classic PS1-style JRPG, right down to the art style. That’s both a stylistic decision and a practical one to reduce the amount of modeling I have to do. The fixed camera was similarly so- I could hide anything that I didn’t like on the back, and or even just not model or texture it (the ship only has three wings, for example) but I also just like the way it looks designwise.
