I am Diego Arce an IMGD Senior focused on 3D Modeling & Level Design. I am from Puerto Rico and transferred to WPI after Becker College closed last year. When I first enrolled in the game design major I went for game design instead of game art, I thought that I would do a little bit of everything not just focus on art since I was never too interested in 2D art. After taking 3D Modeling I’ve definitely shifted my focus towards art as I enjoyed modeling much more than I thought I would. So I hope to enter the Game Development field as some kind of 3D artist more likely environmental, prop or vehicle as while I can do Character art I am much more interested in those parts.
As for what I want to improve I wouldn’t pin point one thing, I really just want to improve everything. I want to be able to compare my work to professional artists. As for making games I am mostly experienced in Unity as that is what was used at Becker, I did get the chance to learn Unreal 5 this past summer through the Environmental Modeling course, which I really enjoyed so will definitely use Unreal in the future.
As for work that inspires me I’d probably say games like Cyberpunk 2077 or GTA V just based off of the level design & art in the games. I really like the cyberpunk aesthetic & open worlds so I would love to be able to create similar looking world to Cyberpunk 2077. As for GTA like I said I like open worlds, I also really enjoy cars so I would love to create a worlds meant for high speed driving similar to GTA V and also would love to be able to create the cars themselves.
Some of the work I showcase on my porfolio:

I was the level designer on this project, we were a 3 person team, a programmer, artists & designer (me). I was in charge of designing the level itself and putting everything together. This game was built in one full WPI term with the purpose of producing a polished portfolio ready game.

Assignment for Environmental Modeling – My room (Maya)

Becker College Game Studio – Journey to Blackwood (Unity Engine)
Journey to Blackwood is a 2D platformer I worked on along with a group of 12 students. I was mostly a level designer & game tester, I worked on the project for a total of two semesters before Becker College closed.

Environmental Modeling Assignment – Castle Environment (Unreal Engine 5)
badge: impressive
your character and environment models look super good, and Journey to Blackwood looks fun too! Every game should have a grappling hook imo
Badge: gorgeous
I’ve seen a lot of champagne rooms while at WPI but yours really stands out as unique and well done. Also, that castle honestly looks like a screenshot from a professional game.
Badge- detailed! The levels and the 3D modeled areas have a lot of little bits that give them life.
You got the striking badge! It’s really the only word that describes most of the work here, from the sleek design of the champagne room to the awe-inspiring castle.
Detailed
The 3D environment models are convincing to the viewer as environments that could be in real life.
Badge: Impressive
You have a lot of different mediums and media here, and your 3D work is great! It’s really cool to see some level design works in here. My favorite is definitely the castle, it looks amazing.
Gorgeous – Your work is incredible! Your environments are so rich and detailed, it’s so cool!

Explanation: As someone who also had to do the champagne room as an assignment, I am extremely impressed by how well yours came out!!

I’m impressed with your environmental art and the clothing on your 3D sculpt, which looks well done.
