The Glacier Church

on

The concept is that the player and their companion Fridrickstien are occult explorers. That caught wind of a church of some sort frozen and perfectly preserved church of sorts within a glacier.

  • Objectives: The player is to collect the 4 items around the map, and then take those 4 objects and place them in the central altar.
  • Mechanics: The player will be in first person, they will be able to move freely, able to pick up and place objects and talk to their companion.
  • Characters: The player will only be known as Doc and Fridrickstien will be a four armed squat creature that carries a large backpack.
  • Key Objects: A ceremonial knife, an occult pendant, an occult book, and a heart.
  • Setting: The player will be within a glacier that is very dimly lit with gas lantern light, the characters will be wearing thick clothing. The space will be an oddly shaped church setting that has been completely frozen over leaving icy statues behind.
  • Features: There will be text carved in random locations throughout the map to give some ideas as to what this cult is actually about. Frozen people will be filling the space giving an eerie feel, similar to the people covered in ash in Pompeii.
  • Intended Audience: This will be aimed towards those who like horror or dark mysteries in general, as the whole premise is to move through a creepy space trying to collect clues while seeing some gruesome sights.
  • Game Style/Player Experience: I would like to get a pretty realistic style if possible, but due to time it will probably end up lacking super amounts of detail. Players wouldn’t need a lot of experience to play this game, they just need to explore and puzzle solve.
  • Art Style: It will be the classic horror genre of being dark and dim with the use of blood and corpses to make things unsettling. I intend to reference a lot to the gothic art style for my structure. This will most likely take place in the mid 1900’s, which will probably come out in the clothing and use of oil lamps. I would like to go for a more realistic style to add to the discomfort, but I will most likely utilize the ice effect to cut some corners and make it look less detailed. Most things will be in various shades of blue due to being covered in ice, there will also be a decent amount of red for the blood and other darker colors to hide beneath the ice. Most everything will be in deep shadow and dim light, especially depending how far the player is from a lantern. Most things will be quite angular with some rounded surfaces. There will be a lot of depth since this will be a first person game, as I intend to make the room look vast to an overbearing degree. The space will quite open, no tight corners or anything that is fully obscured. Everything will be slightly glossy and slick with ice, other than the things the characters brought in. Season and time of day won’t matter as they will be in the dark underground.

A frozen-over occult church sounds SO cool to explore, especially with all the spooky and gory elements adding that extra spice! It’s definitely ambitious in a way that I think I will be able to relate to; I am also doing an idea that involves sculpting a lot of statues, and the idea to use the ice to make the process simpler is very smart. The heart as an object to collect is also very cool and kind of ominous; will the player have to remove it from a body? is it in a chest somewhere? whose heart could it be?
