Hi! My Name is Abi Rauch!

I am an IMGD Visual Arts and CS Junior from Jackson, NJ! I’m a member of the Varsity field hockey team and a Sports Information Media Intern for WPI Athletics.

Art has always been a huge part of my life! Before WPI, I strictly did traditional art. In fact, I didn’t try digital art until the beginning of 2021. In high school, my favorite mediums were acrylic and oils. I’ve also designed, built, and painted sets for 10 shows, with my favorite being Beauty and the Beast and The Hunchback of Notre Dame. For Christmas 2020, I got an IPad, and started seriously practicing digital art! I now have my own Wacom Cintiq 22 and I have a ton of fun creating on it. I’ve found digital painting, concept art, and character design to be my favorite! I’ve also dabbled in 3D modeling, 2D animation, graphic design, video editing, audio editing, pixel art, and texture painting. I would love to eventually become a Character Designer or Concept Artist for Video Games! It’s a lot of work but I hope I can get there eventually! Im currently working on trying to make much better character sheets and turnarounds. I also have a bad habit of starting many projects and never actually finishing them (hence all of the wips you are about to see)

I draw my inspiration for creating from many different places! A few games, movies, shows, books, podcasts, and musics that inspire me include: Undertale/Deltarune, Treasure Planet, Arcane, Adventure time, Chainsaw Man, The Magnus Archives, and Natasha Pierre and the Great Comet of 1812. I tend to paint and color inspired by Impressionistic techniques of laying bright and bold colors next to each other without necessarily blending. I also find great inspiration from the art of Aleksander Rostov, the Art Director for Disco Elysium, as well as Denis Sarazhin and Francesca Fedele.

I have only created two digital games during my time here at WPI! The first one was a 3D dungeon crawler called Sinful Soul, during last years Cutthroat Game Jam. I designed the player and enemy characters, all of the UI elements, and painted all of the textures. The second game was a horror pixel scroller in IMGD 1001! I created all of the stages, sprites, and obstacles, and it was super fun to learn how to make pixel art! Over the summer, I was able to design a few characters for a game a WPI grad, Vladimir Karashchuk, is making, and I had a ton of fun!

Here are some more fun things to know about me! My favorite pair of shoes are my green converse. I have a great love for BMO from Adventure Time and Stitch. I have an affinity for bugs and like to design characters after types of bugs. My birthday will fall on the last day of D term for three years in a row before I graduate. My number one song on Spotify was Under My Skin by Jukebox the Ghost for two years in a row, but I think it will be different this year!

Here’s to a new term, and I can’t wait to create something great with you all!

Fun spooky themed PFP for October!
One of the characters I designed for Vlad, Kiwi the monkey. This is one of my favorite sketches I’ve made, it was completely on a whim with no reference. Wish I had time to clean it up!
One of my favorite 3D models I’ve done!
Concept art inspired by Magnus Archives episode 120, the Sick Village. The episode descibes a fictional mold-like disease that takes over a village and its leaders. This art is inspired by slime mold.
Unfinished piece I started for MerMay. Shes inspired by a Larval Leaf Scorpion Fish! I hope to revisit this piece over winter break
Another character I made for Vlad! His name is Ebo, and he was created as a joke.
Fun painting 🙂
Two screens that I designed and painted for Hunchback of Notre Dame!
One of the characters I designed for Vlad! Shes a former government worker who used to harvest souls for a living. Now shes looking for new technology for her arm. Sad I never got to finish her!
One of the UI elements I made for Sinful Soul. It unfortunately went unused.

The art in your post was thought-provoking because I think there could be a entire story based off of each image.

There’s a wide range of diverse works in here, and the usage of painting techniques is the biggest selling point of the works.

Striking – Holy smokes, this is a feast for the eyes. Everything is absolutely beautiful and gorgeous, but I say striking because it all has an immediate draw to it that pulls you in and holds you. Stunning!

Reasoning: Your use of color is SO fantastic!!! It really makes me want to push myself to experiment with color more. (And hear me out… that bottle you made for the Sinful Soul UI? It looks delicious. I cannot explain it, I just want to eat it idk it’s just so shiny…)
