This is based off of a game cover I made for Digital Painting last term (As seen on the featured image).
Player Objectives
The main part of the game is racing, so one of the main objectives is to drive faster than your opponents by driving better than they are and by modifying your vehicles in ways that makes it faster than your opponents.
Game Mechanics
All though I have a giant list of features I would like to make, this is only a 7 week term and I don’t have a full team to help me create this. So I will go with the basics
- Time Attack racing
- Set time for the player to complete the track
- Time will be pre defined after rigorous testing to ensure the time is on par with the intended difficulty of the track
- Depending on how faster the player is than the minimum time will guarantee more money
- Car Upgrades
- Keep it simple, with the money the player got from racing they will be able to do simple upgrade to their cars like better acceleration, brakes & top speed
Characters and Key Objects
The driver- This is the character the player controls
Key Objects: Drivable Vehicles, Vehicle Upgrade Pickups, Nitrous Refuel
Game World and Setting
The concepts starts out as a open world racing game set in a big city similar to NYC or LA, with an outer section with long curvy roads similar to the canyon roads on the outer parts of LA. There will also be 2 mechanic shops (depending on time constraint interiors may be identical) one shop will be in the heart of the city and another will be a property along the canyon roads. The mechanic shop will serve as a home base where the player can modify their cars.
Gameplay Highlights/Hooks/Features
Multiple race environments, you are not constrained to only city courses, canyon streets allow for a completely different type of track.
Intended Audience and how you will appeal to it
People who enjoy anything automotive including racing games. Also those who enjoy large open world city games like GTA V & Cyberpunk 2077.
Game Style/Player Experience
- 1st/3rd person view toggle
- Player is able to get in/out of car
Art Style Description
My original idea was to have a similar vibe to GTA V by making it realistic looking, but because of time constraint I will most likely end up making it a mix between realistic and cartoony. Maybe make the level realistic but make the cars not so realistic as they can take a long time to make.
As for the look of the game I want it to be modern day big city vibes. I really like the cyberpunk aesthetic so I’ll probably go for a lot of blue & purple lights coming from street signs and make the world permanently night to enhance the effect the lights have on the gameplay.
There will only be one type of interior the garages, they will be modeled after “Car Condos”, which are basically a large garage with an upstairs loft which is living space.

Reference/Mood Board

This game sounds very cool, I think I would very much enjoy the challenge of getting good enough at gameplay to be able to upgrade to new models. It is very ambitious, however; do you plan on making the whole city and the canyon tracks all for this class? Do you have plans for cutting down the workload of making an entire city as well as programming actual gameplay?
Thanks!
I’m doing the level design concept right now so I’ll probably do a little bit of both, small city and maybe one or two canyon roads. My programming knowledge is very limited so I’ll probably use something off of the assets store if I don’t find a simple tutorial online.
