Sydney Gardner

Howdy, I’m Sydney Gardner, I am from New York City, and I am a senior IMGD BA major with a concentration in Tech Art and a minor in Computer Science.

I’ve always been a very artsy and creative person and have been making things for as long as I can remember. I’ve done a fair share of traditional art and drawing as well as digital work. I’ve always been a big animation nerd and have had a lot of fun playing around with different animation programs and tools. I’m excited to learn more about art production in games and how to efficiently develop it, as these skills will apply to many of the projects I see myself doing in this field.

Outside of the digital art sphere I’ve tried my hand at a variety of crafts such as sewing, embroidery, sculpture, needle felting, woodburning, stamp carving, and jewelry making. I like to bounce around from project to project, and crafting has honestly been one of the things keeping me sane at the moment.

As I mentioned before I absolutely love animation and some of my favorite shows and movies are Avatar the Last Airbender, Hilda, Gravity Falls, Over the Garden Wall, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, and Lilo & Stitch. As for games, some of my all-time favorites are Undertale, Hades, A Short Hike, Death’s Door, and Celeste. Each of those titles have great stories to tell, and on top of that they’ve all got either low-poly 3D or pixel art (Hades is kind an exception to that statement but roll with it) and I just think those art styles are ~neat~.

Here is some of my work!

Two characters I modeled over the summer as part of RigsOfColor.

A short animated video titled The Heist that I made for my 3D Animation II course.

A little goat walk cycle animation I did for the Student Alumni Society.

My 2D Animation Reel from my freshman year.
Surprisingly most of it still holds up.

Some of my sewing projects. Made the bee patterns myself and the cat is a modified version of a pattern I bought on Etsy (https://www.etsy.com/listing/530921368/cat-sewing-pattern-pdf-fat-cat-plush).

Some stamps I’ve made! I’ve been dabbling in stamp carving and I find making these lil’ guys very fun.

Badge- cute! The cat and bee plushies and Gertrude are adorable! The stamps and goat walk cycle too!

You got the gorgeous badge! Overall the portfolio is well rounded, but what really stood out to me were the knight’s walk cycle and the 2D Animation final project especially because of how beautifully animated they were.

    Inventive
The animations seen in this page, especially the walk cycles, are realistic yet exaggerated for animation effects. The portfolio itself is also well divided in terms of both 2D and 3D works.

Very unique and unconventional designs. They have a strange, yet comfortable feel to them.

You have a very unique art style and character designs. There’s a lot of interesting work here, and I like the creature design of Gertrude! The diversity of works here is cool, from sewing to modeling to animating.

Explanation: I was watching your reel and I gasped out loud when the baby got clocked in the face, I was not expecting that haha. Your work is really nice!! I love the dragon animation , and the little goat gif is sooo cute omg (also if you’ve still got extra of those beads, consider me interested in those rainbow bracelets…)

    Badge: Detailed
Your 3D skull assets are amazingly textured and the character designs as well are very cool! Your 2D animations are also very charming and have a great sense of comedic timing!

I really liked your 2D animations in particular. They looked really fluid and conveyed a very cute/amusing tone.

    Badge: Impressive
When I saw the skull assets I was surprised by how well they are done, to me they look like AAA game assets. Something I feel like I’d see in a game like Elden Ring with how detailed it is.
