Wade Greiner- Introduction

Hey! I’m Wade Greiner. I’m a junior from Alexandria, VA, just outside DC. I’ve been drawing since I was in preschool but I didn’t start taking it seriously until 3rd or 4th grade. Ideally, I’ll be doing some kind of work as an animator or illustrator. In the meantime, I’m taking as many classes on those as I can and doing some work on the side taking commissions and making pins and charms and such. I really want to improve my ability with backgrounds since a lot of my experience has been with drawing humans. Almost all of my experience making games has been in IMGD classes at WPI. I’m a Dungeon Master for DND, and I’ve been known to dabble in writing, but for the most part my artistic sensibilities lie in the visual. A lot of my inspiration comes from JRPGs like the Tales series, the Xeno series, and the Final Fantasy series, anime-style fighting games like BlazBlue and Under Night, comics and webcomics I read or used to read like Force Aquatica, and the various artists I follow on social media. ABDIllustrates in particular I tend to follow stylistically. I usually work in fantasy settings- I honestly love jumping into a fantasy setting I know nothing about and learning its nonsense- but I do urban punk sometimes as well, and I’m trying to branch out into other genres too. I’m a baseball-obsessed nut, too, although my Nats were the worst team in baseball last year and traded away Juan Soto who is one of the best hitters the game has ever seen, and I don’t say that lightly.

This is one of my DND characters, Arinniti Rassoul. She’s an Aasimar Sorcerer/Monk who I decided to give a couple formal outfits as well, since she’s a dancer and would probably have some. Also I wanted to see buff lady in a suit and in a dress but that’s, like. Secondary.
This is another of my DND characters, Yarrow Amaryllis. His basic design is still the same but has actually evolved quite a bit since I drew this freshman year. This was the first piece I put more than a couple hours into. I spent about nine hours on this one, which may or may not have been in one sitting and may or may not have started at 11 PM. Don’t worry about it.
This is an owlbear, also from DND. He was not supposed to look this stupid but I drew him using the symmetry tool and the eyes were slightly off-center. No thoughts, just vibes. King.
This is Mesomora, another DND-related character. She’s a half-drow witch with a mischievous streak. I also decided it would be fun to have her be a little bit of a cowgirl. I like giving DND characters southern accents, including any and all fey or elven characters.
This is an animation I did for a projectile attack called “Ouroboros Cutter” in some 2D fighting game or sidescroller.
This is a drawing I did of a friend’s DND character, a fire genasi viking cleric named Yrsa. I was really happy with the way the ember effect and glowing eyes came out with her, as well as being generally pleased with the fur and armor combination.
This is a drawing of Scapegoats from Yugioh. I thought all of them would be cute and I was right.
This is a drawing I did of my childhood stuffed giraffe, Super Chacks Land P. I have an explanation for his name: He’s super, his given name is Chacks, and he’s from the land of P. No, that clarifies nothing, but it’s all I have. I was like two, sorry.
These are a couple of pins I had made featuring a set of tabletop RPG dice and banners saying “Vox Populi, Vox Dice.” “Vox Populi, Vox Dice” is a play on Vox Populi, Vox Deus- The Will of the People, the Will of God. So this is The Will of the People, the Will of the Dice. And what are TTRPGs if not that? (PS you can buy these at That’s Entertainment in Worcester or at etsy.com/shop/chacksland thank you)
This… yeah the only thought process behind this one was the phrase “Steampunk Naturia” and I have no idea where that came from. The name of the ship is the Volans Gaia- Flying Earth. I almost named it the Yggdrasill but decided against it. This is actually one of the ideas I’m considering doing for this class, but I haven’t settled on it yet.
This is an animation I did for the introduction of a game I made in 1001 called Milky Way Madness. It was a Space Invaders clone where you played as a cow with laser eyes (we never addressed that) The aliens had lasers that turned you into a hamburger, which happens to a few cows in this intro. I was actually really happy with all the animations I made for this game. I made a bunch of idles of the cow sneezing and flicking her ears and stuff which were all really cute.

I made this animatic for a DND campaign that sadly died before the next session after I made this. Regardless, I’m really happy with the way this one came out, and it felt exactly like the anime opening I wanted it to, besides the fact that I didn’t do much actual animation in favor of animatic-style movements.

I like the amount of small details you put into your art pieces and character design. The forest scene has grass, flowers, water ripples, and animals in the background that all really add to the environment and bring the piece together!

The love for DnD characters and putting all of your time and effort into something you love despite no one else truly getting the context is something I will always adore. As it is for you and the world can just watch and enjoy your love for the game.

Badge- Familiar. Wow, all these characters and scenes and images, I feel like I’ve seen them all before somehow, but I don’t have any idea where I might have seen them…

It’s always good to see someone sticking to their passions and go further with them as 2D art designs, especially from the initial characters to the ships and pins.

You got the colorful badge! You never seem to shy away from bright saturated colors, and that often gives your work a comic book feel that’s really nice.

Cute – I think the work shown here is super colorful and detailed, but I can’t get past how darn cute the Owlbear, Scapegoats, & Super Chacks Land P are. You have a really fun style!

I really liked your 2D animation you did for Milky Way Madness. The animation itself is flawless as well I feel like they are much smoother than other pixel art style animations I’ve seen before.
