Hello again, I’m back.
I’ve got a character, a really basic environment and some dramatic lighting.
This was seriously a case of biting off more than I can chew if I’m being honest. I expected to have this cool open area with a roaming monster, but my abilities led me to practically a concept environment. I am quite disappointed with myself that I couldn’t do anything more but I’m officially out of time to work on this. I’m moving to a new house starting tomorrow so I’m out of time.
Some things I wish I could have done:
- Literally anything about the environment. It is way too barebones to be interesting. If I had more time, I’d spend a lot of it making props and texturing them to make even this modest space look a bit more interesting.
- The character. He doesn’t have legs or an animation trigger. I’m really annoyed by this because I had a full character with legs and it was animated and it was so cool looking, and then somewhere along the pipeline from ZBrush to Unity, something catastrophically broke. My UV’s were completely destroyed and the textures I had hand painted onto the character suddenly didn’t work. I didn’t have time to remake the whole character from scratch so I took my legless version of the character from my 3D modeling 2 class and used that one’s animations and textures.
I sat there working on fixing the break in that pipeline for about 4 hours to no avail.
- The lighting could be a lot better. I had planned on making it flash and try and replicate rain falling and thunder and lighting, but that was just too much. I didn’t even get any audio into this thing.
Overall, this was way more difficult that I had imagined and I definitely suffered for that. If I were to do things over again I’d make many more props before pouring hours and hours into a character that; doesn’t work, and even if it did, wouldn’t be seen very well in the dark environment.
Well, that’s enough whining and excuses. Here’s a whole bunch of stuff from the game.

Well, that’s it from me. I’m going to go enjoy moving myself to a new house while trying to not think about this trainwreck of a project.
I think you really nailed the spooky environment, especially with the lighting. The monster is also great and scary, I like it’s animation. I can imagine that being a really terrifying jumpscare!
The paint job on this character looks so good! It definitely gave me goosebumps. The use fog added to the spooky and horror environment. This level gives off the vibe that a jump scare is waiting to happen. I really like the small but detailed element of putting a white chair to the left.
