For my game, I will primarily use one material that will be slightly adjusted per model. I experimented a lot and made a smart material in Substance Painter that looks like watercolor paint and has lots of flexibility. I also made a paper texture in Substance Sampler that I included in this material for a base. I first built it and tested it on the frog model that comes with Substance Painter, then I applied it to one of my models and adjusted the colors. I realized some errors I made in making my models that I can fix to make the material apply nicer, but overall a smooth transition from frog to post. For funsies, I added lineart as well, which works well since my game is isometric and the model will only be viewed from one angle. Finally, I threw it in Maya to test the affects of lighting on it. Also built upon the material to make it look like wood floors, so I know I’ll be able to build upon it if other patterns are needed.

These textures are so cool! I’m super impressed with how much these look like watercolor.
