Morgan Jones Introduction

Hi! I’m Morgan and I am a 3D Environment Artist and often UI designer by chance. I’m a Senior IMGD student at WPI and just transferred here from Becker College (R.I.P.). I’m from Central New Jersey and currently living in Worcester where I’ll most likely stay for a bit after I graduate this Spring.

Art has always been a passion of mine, but I didn’t take it seriously as a career path until very late in high school. I have found that 3D modeling and texturing is something I really enjoy and I’m hoping to start my career in the game industry doing that. I grew up doodling in sketchbooks and painting for fun before I discovered digital art. I have a lot of experience with digital art in many forms from 3D modeling, texturing, sculpting to 2D illustration, UI design, and so on. I have experience in programs such as Blender, Substance Painter and Designer, Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator and After Effects, Procreate, Unity and Unreal.

I have been on multiple game projects in the last three or so years. I was a part of a team in my Sophomore year as 3D and 2D artist that produced a top-down arcade shooter called Beat The Machine. I created multiple 3D enemy assets, all the UI and promotional material. I got the opportunity to showcase our game at PAX East 2020 and we launched on Steam the following summer. I also worked on a 3D steampunk tower defense titled Factotum in my Junior year where I created all tower assets and UI. I am looking to hopefully improve my 3D art skills, particularly in the more technical aspects like UV unwrapping and remeshing. I also hope to improve my skills in engines like Unity and Unreal.

I have most of my work on my website including personal projects and the different game projects I worked on. I am always looking to grow and improve and build my portfolio to hopefully impress an employer in the very near future. Your work is freaking amazing! These models look totally professional and it’s amazing to see work from a real game you can get on Steam. There’s so much life and detail in each piece.

I feel like a lot of what I’m going to say will be a repeat of Percy’s comment, but I wholeheartedly agree; the detail in your environments is so impressive, and in particular your handle on lighting and making the areas look realistic is amazing. I genuinely feel as if I could step into these environments.

Really terrific variety, but what’s even better than the variety is the level of detail and talent in every piece you’ve created, all just as detailed as they need to be but all show a clear concise level of thought put into every piece. Expert work all around!

Everything here is so professionally done. All of your models have extremely refined geometry and texturing, and your lighting and composition really showcase it. I am super excited to see what you make for this final project.

These renders look fantastic! I’m newer to 3D art and love the look of your sets and pieces. I especially like the cyberpunk-esque room that you’ve made your featured image.

I really like the aisles and bedrooms you made. The control of light and material makes these two works look very lifelike. There are many small details worth noting: scattered documents, different light treatments on the corner vegetation, including blurring of the line of sight from far to near in the aisle. Indeed very commendable!

Detailed- the lighting in your 3d scenes is amazing. You were able to capture a lot of small details and make the spaces feel lived in. You clearly pay a lot of attention to lighting, and it emphasizes the highly detailed scenes you have created perfectly.

You have really amazing models and UI, with great color choice and attention to detail. I really like the textures you showcased (the lava is my favorite), as well as the lighting and atmosphere in your personal project. Can’t wait to see what you have in store for the class!

On top of your work you shown being downright lovely, the professionality and how far along you are in your development as an artist is commendable and I can only hope to be at this level as I improve, bravo
