Final Project – Julian Herman

Descriptor: The game is a exploratory 3D Platformer where the player has to traverse a environment and find all collectables in said environment. This is done through the games central mechanics of running and jumping throughout the environment.

Reflection: As is with all games in the game design process, the starting scope was significantly toned down from what was originally envisioned. Most notably, the ball changing mechanic was sadly unable to be implemented, leaving the gameplay rudimentary and basic but still somewhat lacking, especially with the curved environments of the terrain and geometry found throughout the level. Similarly, some quality of life additions such as the jumping marker letting the player know where they are when jumping in the air and the quick fall marker were similarly left out, but to less detrimental effect. Overall however I am happy with how the level came out artistically, capturing what I wanted to show off both tone and presentation wise. Similarly, I am happy to have learned the general pipeline and implementation mechanics of all assets in the scene which will no doubt help me in the future. While I did work tirelessly on the level, there are a few elements that are now wholly mine. Some animations of the character were generated with Maximo to help expedite the development process of the overall level. Similarly the ocean asset and skybox were both downloaded from the asset store/internet.

The art style in this game is super cool. I love how you managed to get this crayon style to work in 3D. The one thing that feels out of place to me is the grass. I think you could try drawing your own grass texture using the crayon pencil! That might help tie the whole game together. Otherwise, super cool and super fun.

The hand-drawn assets really remind me of figments from psychonauts. I also really like the car and from going through your other posts it seems that you put a lot of work, which is noticeable, into that asset.
