Ian Scott Introduction

Hello everyone, my name is Ian Scott and I am a Senior majoring in Robotics Engineering and minoring in IMGD. Art, particularly 3D art was a relatively new discovery of mine but something that has drastically changed the path I plan on taking in life. At the start of the COVID pandemic, I was home and trying to find miniatures to 3D print for a game of dungeons and dragons but couldn’t find anything that I liked. I figured that I could probably learn how to make something passible and thus started the rabbit hole of learning the various aspects of 3D art.

Like mentioned above, aside from painting miniatures for various games I had never done a ton of art prior to COVID-19. However, I have seriously fallen in love with it and am now very passionate about 3D modelling (particularly character modelling), procedural content generation, and creating tools to help me create assets easier. During this course I want to further pursue these passions and work on refining my own content creation process.

I don’t really have a ton of experience creating games. This A term I took IMGD 1001 and developed a visual novel. In addition, I did the IDGA game jam this A term but those were really the first games I ever contributed to. While I love playing games, I find myself more drawn to creating assets for film due to the additional visual fidelity you are allowed (also I care more about creating compelling visual experiences rather than interesting gameplay).

For most of my life growing up I was a classical musician playing the viola but I dropped that before college started. I also have painted miniatures since late high school but those are most of the other arts I have done. I have always been more of a programmer and engineer.

I very recently watched the new Dune movie (an adaptation of a book I love) and I was blown away by the visuals. My guess is that movie will inspire the work I do this term during this class.

I look forward to working with everyone and seeing the work everyone produces!

Final image is made over 1 weekend for the IGDA game jam. Note, Julian Herman modelled a portion of the original props for this piece and did the concept art.

TOTALLY awesome work for someone who just picked up 3D art!! I’m so impressed by how many cool models you’ve been able to make!

    Familiar

Cant quite put my finger on it, but something about your kitchen model seems vaguely familiar, looking like the bowl, chair, cup, fork, fridge, knife, mug, napkins, plate, salt and pepper shakers, and the table was modeled by a very dignified and humble craftsman.

All the same, your 3D Models themselves are all excellent, showing off a resplendent amount of lovingly crafted detail, whether it be the clothes they wear or the musculature of their skin, it all looks acutely rendered with a visual appeal that makes them all the better to look at.

There is a lot of detail in all of the models for example all the wrinkles in the lighting effect area of that one bald guy model.

Lots of nice 3D models and beautifuly rendered scenes. I especially like the details in the wrinkles of the head model.

Hey Ian! Good to see you again since GPS freshman year! It’s super cool that there is another RBE major in this class that is also pursuing their passion. Your art is really great, and I can’t wait to see what you make in this class!

We were on IMGD1001 together on the last term! The 3d modeling of your group undoubtedly makes your visual novel look even more exciting. Each piece is great. Especially the bald man. Such detailed wrinkle carving really helps to improve the texture of the entire model

Considering you have just entered the world of 3D art, your models are very good and are able to convey human-figure muscles and body parts clearly.

I think I will go with thought-provoking (or detailed?) since your work shows the amount of time and care you have put into it.
