My project is, at last finished! After ironing out a few major and minor bumps, I have a playable build to show off. The player cannot do much other than walk around, but I still hope the map is fun to explore.
My game is a guinea pig based adventure game with RPG elements. The main character is a mage apprentice, setting out to explore the world beyond the village they call home. The player starts in their hometown village, where most of the in-game shops and characters reside. Setting wise, this is a fantasy world, with hints of architecture and environment elements that reference items related to small pets. The artstyle is a little cartoony, with a focus on making the world and characters seem magical and whimsical. It can be downloaded here via the following OneDrive link:
Here is a little video as well giving a tour of the guinea pig village:
Here are some images of my favorite parts of the level, the “main attractions” if you will.
Here is the atlas of all the models I made that comprise the environment:

This project was a lot different than what I’m used to doing. I am someone who has always focused more on 2D art and concepts, not working in 3D. I am also completely new to Unity. That said, this class taught me a lot. I learned Unity is a lot easier to use than I thought. While it still fought me every step of the way (as technology tends to do with me), I had a much easier time than I expected importing and setting up my scene. I also found that building terrain and assigning materials was much easier in Unity than it is in the Unreal engine. If I ever do end up working on a game scene again, I now know I would prefer to work in Unity as my game engine of choice. I also got some good practice 3D modeling and understanding Maya. While I have taken classes in 3D modeling, it has never been my strong suit. However, having the freedom to experiment in this project also gave me the ability to get better. I feel now that I am capable of making a decent 3D model. I also discovered that while I still am not too keen on 3D modeling, I do enjoy the texturing process. One major challenge for me was rigging and animating a 3D model. I have no experience doing so. Overall I learned how to do a lot of things! While my project ended up still malfunctioning in some areas in the end, I still am proud of the work I was able to accomplish.
This was fun! Hope everyone likes it!
I really like the culling and it was something I wished I use in order to save space within my game file. I really like the guinea pig walk and how the model really fits inside of the environment.
