Wholesome Cat Game involves walking around a street market getting groceries so that your tired wife can have a break. The game is just the environment and characters. I focused a lot on NPCs and character interactions, so I added 9 characters alongside the player’s character. Once I made one cat, I kind of went crazy and just designed a bunch more. A lot of them are references to characters from the Warriors series. I even made an NPC of my own cat. I made 10 different animations in Maya to give more life to the scene. Two of the animations are walk & run cycles. There is one additional idle given to two characters & wife when she wakes up. I made idle and awake animations for shopkeepers. I also gave a little lounging idle animation to one NPC. The rest of the animations are two talking animations, a laughing cat, and of course sleepy cat wife. I created a lot of materials & textures using original artwork.
I learned that I should probably not save things for the last minute, but also that I work well under pressure. I did a significant amount of work in the last few days of the term that I am very proud of. I learned what it takes to make a good, lively environment. I also learned what I did wrong with Unity and why it took me hours to get the third person controller to work. I can say that I am definitely more confident in using Unity as an engine. My most significant areas of growth were in level design, texturing, and animation.

I really like the variety of cats and that having all the models have some sort of animation really makes the world feel lived in. Also using different textures on the same models really made each location different and was a great use of resources.
You’ve absolutely sold me on the environment that this game takes place in. The Colors, the NPCs, the props, they’re all excellent and give a real sense of the world the player explores. Just a small detail to fix would be the camera sway that sometimes gives it trouble capturing the action on screen.
