Charlotte is set in a steampunk-style environment inside a large house. The setting has a painted texture for its style and is oriented in isometric view. You play as a little girl named Charlotte who wishes to escape the house and sneak past its robots. Overall, making a custom character controller for the game view and the smart material for the game’s textures were the biggest accomplishments of the project, but a lot of love was put into Charlotte herself as well.
I definitely had too big of a scope for the game originally, and I have learned from that. Given all the technical issues I constantly ran into along with overloading on classes this term, I had to cut a lot out of my game that I originally planned on adding. I didn’t populate my environment as much as I would’ve liked, and my original texturing style would include lineart to build on the 2D/3D illusion that I was aiming for. My smart material did a lot of the heavy lifting, but lineart had to be hand drawn, which was too time consuming for all the assets I wanted to make. Alongside that, I used mixamo animations instead of making my own. I learned how to use motion capture, which I really wanted to implement into the game, but I had to cut corners in order to get the game done in time. Overall, I’m proud of what I was able to get done despite all the hardships this term, but I wish I didn’t bite off more than I can chew as well. Thank you for the wonderful class and hope you like Charlotte!

Charlotte animations from mixamo
Absolutely Gorgeous! The pastel water color art style does wonders for the tone and game feel, and even though the animations were from Mixamo, they do a great job conveying the character behind your lovingly detailed model. A addition that would add wonders for your scene would be a shadow for the character, just so they feel more a part of their environment instead of existing on top of it.
