For this game as mentioned before I want to create a low poly colorful environment that is full of different interactable items that share a balance between nature and the unknown. I want to show off some modular building kit ideas and then expand on them in order to create an enjoyable concept. Things like the gondola structure and the house will be unique but I will get to them when more of the kit is built up in order to have quick unique ideas on how to set those structures up.
I plan on creating many trees of different sizes and even some ramps for fallen trees, I want to use a couple of tree trunk and leaf models in order to mix them around to make the environment look nice. I also can use some of the leaves in combination to make bushes if I really wanted to.
Here are some unique ideas I have that can be reused on different ends of the level. Also, I decided that if I put two layers of ground — snow and a dirt layer — I could more easily make melted snow areas and even dirt areas under places such as an igloo and a tent. A Stag represents the Elks I would take for granted in Wyoming and why a Stag instead of an Elk, I guess it is because of the squeaky call Elks have.
These rocks will be generic but have visible faces manipulated in Maya, I really want to have a secret room to be a secret for now but this should signify to you that you have found it, that is if you find it. The rocks will be not manipulated if they are tiny decorations but will be slightly manipulated when they are bigger in the environment. The snow on top will also be modular if time allows me to make that detail possible.
This will be a unique set modeled once but the hold up of the tent I hope will be an asset I created within my kit. I want this tent to be sloppy and uncomfortable which is one reason why the player will want to escape.
I currently have two unique types of collectibles that will be copied and pasted around the environment. This will also help with the details that I can put on the eggs if time allows. I am thinking of possibly adding one more but I am not sure about a unique object or just a unique symbol on different types of objects.
When the ground is visible, I would like to place grass down that will make the new visible ground interesting to look at. I just learned that Unity has a way of setting up trees and grass so I will see how the grass looks in unity before I make a model of it in Maya.
This is the style I am hoping for with colors and stylization with color to be the main appeal. Of course, there are going to be many differences but this picture really shows the low poly style effectively.
