Seth Coellner – Introduction

on

Hello, my name is Seth. I’m from Cape Cod, Massachusetts. I love making 3D art as a hobby and have been doing it for most of my life, if I was able to make money off of it one day that would be awesome. I started working with 3D programs around the time I was 9 and haven’t stopped since, funnily enough, I have little experience with traditional art mediums. I would like to get better at them, however. I don’t have too much experience making games, but I am familiar with game animation and design. My favorite medium for 3D modeling is Blender, I have been using it for a long time. I also am a drummer and have drummed for about as long as I have been 3D modeling.

I find most games I come across as inspiring, I love to look at a game and figure out how they did a mechanic or artistic choice. Recently I have been inspired by the game company Playdead, I love the atmospheres they developed in their games like INSIDE and Little Nightmares. If I were to develop a game right now it would be very similar to that style.

Rooms:

I recently made my apartment bedroom in 3D, I like to do this with most rooms my computer is in as an exercise.

My dorm room freshman year

Robots

I also enjoy making robots, they’re much easier than humans and look twice as cool 🙂

Terraria

Recently I got back into Terraria so I decided to try to make my character in blender

Also made the moon lord, hoping to turn this into an animation

Abstract:

wanted to make something abstract, this is what it ended up being

Monsters

these are also another exercise I like to do, both started as a sphere and I sculpted them into what they are

Striking: In all your pieces, you use contrast within the color palette as well as the setting versus subject. The pieces are amazing.

All of these pieces are really nice to look at and are professional. I would recommend talking to Ralph Sutter on doing 3D Modeling freelancing since he does that?

These are super atmospheric and beautiful! You do a really good job of picking textures that looks gorgeous with one another, and your use of shadows to create mysterious looking work is ( chefs kiss ). Really impressive work!

    Gorgeous

I completely thought the first two images were photos when I first looked at them. Your understanding of lighting is immaculate and the models and textures were so good. Also, that abstract piece blew my mind. I am so excited to see what you make this term and I may be asking you for pointers XD.

Your rendering skills are phenominal. Lots of your scenes tend to be dark, but that makes the lighting you set up stand out even more, especially in your abstract piece.

These pieces are all amazing! I really respect high-quality 3D modeling work as it’s something I’m trying to improve on and your pieces are great inspiration!

    Dark!

The overall tone of your work is dark. But this is actually a very remarkable thing: how to present objects vividly in the dark is undoubtedly very familiar with the interaction between objects and light and shadow. The bedroom at the beginning is a good example. The image of the Moon Lord in Terraria and the monster you created I think it conveys the indescribable fear in the Cthulhu mythology. Amazing!

What the hell!! This art is so slick and cool!! Crazy good 3D work. I love those monsters and robots

Dark- Your art tackles some darker themes, but its so fascinating. I cant stop looking at the curvy robot and the giant monster- they’re so detailed and there’s so much compositionally to take in. As a concept artist, I really respect your ability to make a scene feel like a whole story, and your skills in 3d are phenomenal.

I can definitely see the influence from the games that inspire you in your art! Each piece has a lot of cool shadows or creepy creatures. I’m always a fan of art that has that darker side to it!

The 3d rooms you made are so nicely detailed and show that you have an amazing ability in creating environments. The moon lord is definitely something I would love to see animated, since the piece already looks amazing. The abstract piece makes nice use of negative space and is professional-level work.

I think I will go with dark, since your work is stunning, but seems to have a theme of darker aspects. I love the robots and creatures, and some of your work seems a little creepy, but I think that will help your art.

It’s hard to pick out what I want to say, but each of these pieces are stunning, incredibly detailed and beautiful with a range of emotions and appreciate it quite a bit
