Kateri “Kiki” Bajer – Introduction

Hey ho! I’m Kateri, but everyone knows me as Kiki and I use they/them pronouns. I was born in Texas, one of the biggest states, and then moved into Rhode Island just a few months later, where I’d live the rest of my life.

I’m a junior IMGD Tech major who’s very much a “jack of all trades and master of none” type. I can code, draw, do audio work, and work as a freelance writer, and enjoy making a bunch of solo games (though I love working with others as well!)

I’ve got experience animating and creating 3d art, but I primarily enjoy creating 2d art (pixel art in particular) and am currently interested in learning how to create low poly art. I am a smaller streamer, and enjoy creating various assets for projects from graphic design to full illustrations.

On top of this, I work as a freelance writer and actively take commissions for things from games to personal stories.

I’ve been a big fan of JRPGs and pixel art style games for as long as I can remember. I particularly like current adaptations of pixels, pushing the boundaries of what people can do with the medium instead of using it as a limitation of the hardware. I enjoy low saturation tile sets, and use it is a large source of inspiration.

“You suppose you resent her for it.

Of course, even admitting to something like that feels immature. It’s akin to a child digging their heels in the ground and looking a parent in the eye when asked to do the laundry because it’s their responsibility saying, “Well, I didn’t ask to be born in the first place!”

But it’s not like Sakura gave birth to you. In fact, she likely didn’t even consider you a “you” in the first place. Not her fault, once again, since it stems from a self-hatred that you’ve inherited and an inability to consider herself anything human-like that you haven’t. It still baffles you how someone who doesn’t even think they deserve to exist can be so selfish. Well, you’d be hypocritical to critique her for it.

More than being born, you resent her for forcing you to fall in love and then be left without it.”

Your pixel art is astonishing. I love it! That first sprite is so cool. (and not to be a biased fan, but that little junpei sprite has me close to tears)

I could pick like 7 different badges to give to your work and still feel as if I left some relevant badges out. All your art is adorably excellent with each piece having its own unique and happy vibe that makes it feel good to just look at them. I’m a big fan of how you use your colors sparingly but still vibrantly, making everything feel relaxed but still have it pop out at the viewer. Good job all around!

I think I will go with shiny, since your work incorporates a lot of light and bold colors to convey the story as well as evoke specified feelings.

I can tell you are a fellow appreciator of women and drawing / creating female characters. Your character art is very graceful and comforting. I also think it’s neat that you’ve experimented quite a bit with perspective. I really like your isometric perspective pixel art, I think that it’s very visually stimulating in color and it sets up a nice environment in a small amount of space. I really look forward to seeing more of your stuff.

I really like your use of softer, pastel colors in many of your works. I especially like the piece of the pixelated beachside campfire.

Your hand-drawn works and pixel style are also my favorite styles. I especially like the little girl under the cherry tree. Especially the texture of the sea water that you draw through pixels makes people feel comfortable. It is this kind of gradual processing that makes the effect of the whole work not inferior to the traditional art form. Salute to you!

The pixel art has such nice colors and is able to convey so much detail within itself. Your digital images also present nice color and remind me of Korean professional webtoons. I would love to check out your other works and stream!
