Erin Marczewski – Introduction

on

Hi there! My names Erin Marczewski! I am a current junior here at WPI and will graduate in 2023. I’m an IMGD BA major concentrating in the visual arts. Seeing as the word “art” literally in the title of my major, you could say it plays a pretty frequent and prominent role in my life. Many of my classes involve me making art for assignments, so I’m working on projects all the time as of late. In terms of more personal art, I like to make some when I can when inspiration strikes. Unfortunately these art projects are few an far between these days because of my workload, but I try to make stuff when I can.
Thankfully much of that work being art projects for classes means I don’t get too rusty. In the long run, I hope to be able to become a concept artist for games. I may not be the most experienced in digital art, but over the past few years I’ve honed my skills quite a bit. I’d still say I’m a little more experienced with traditional art, as that was what I was originally trained in during my time and high school art classes and therefore have been doing it much longer. Digital painting software is something I have gotten quite good at though, and hopefully I will continue to improve my proficiency with them. I even do a little pixel art every once and a while! 3D art isn’t my specialty or preference, but it’s another area I look to get better in as well. In terms of making games, I have a couple of experiences under my belt. During high school I attended several summer camps where I built games worth other kids my age. I’ve also built games for classes here at college, and worked on content for games as part of a small indie studio.
Along with art, I do like to write occasionally, and I’m also a fan of doing improv on occasion. My favorite games are often ones with a fantasy theme. I particularly like darker, more mysterious fantasy, with similar visuals to shadow of the colossus. If also a big fan of art styles that are unique and genuinely gorgeous to look at. Realistic game graphics aren’t really important to me, I’m much more interested and inspired by game worlds and characters that look fun and unique.
Hope to get to know you all a little better over the course of the term!

I have a personal portfolio site at https://erintmarc.wordpress.com and a Twitter account I post my work to occasionally @ErinMarczewski

I love your dinosaur teapot, I’d pay good money for that boy to become a reality and to drink some tea from it! I love the colors you use and you’ve got a good grasp on how to use them well together 🙂

Each piece looks unique and speaks for itself. The skull with the snakes is so cool. I would pay to have a tattoo of that.

    Quirky!

I love your skull of Medusa. The various forms of snakes give the painting extraordinary vitality. At the same time, it also symbolizes the tragic situation of Medusa: even though her body rots after death, the snake that changes out of her beautiful hair will never die. A really impressive piece of work!
