Hey all! My name’s Perseus Rosencrantz, but you can call me Percy (or Rose!), and I use he/him. I’m from Portland, Maine, but spent a few years of childhood in Zurich, Switzerland, leading me to be very confused about where I feel like I’m from. I’m an IMGD BA major (obviously) and I’ve spent most of my life drawing dragons, cats, and other animals and furries. I’ve always figured art would have a major part in my future just because of the sheer amount of art I produced as a kid. So, I decided to pursue art… without going to art school, because who wants to do that. I figured, I like games, I like art, let’s do both, so here I am. I’ve always wanted to make games, too, anyway.
As mentioned before, I’ve been drawing since I was like, four. I probably picked up digital art around 11. I’ve been doing both types of art ever since, although I tend to sketch on paper, and create completed drawings on my cintiq. I don’t and will not ever paint on paper. A few years ago, I picked up a few new artistic hobbies, all at around the same time. I started sewing stuffed animals and sculpting both digitally and traditionally. I also combine these two mediums to make art dolls, a multi-media soft sculpture style creation. Class-wise, I’ve discovered I also greatly enjoy 3D modeling & animating, and 2D animation as well. I also write as a hobby, although this is more often done in my head while I’m stuck with insomnia, than actually on paper.
I’m very interested in improving all of my art, especially my digital art. I have not been happy with a digital piece in years and would like to see this change. I am much happier with pieces I’ve produced for classes, although I get the feeling this is because it’s all stuff I haven’t really done, making it easier for me to be proud of my accomplishments. I’m still very excited to get more 3D experience with this class, too.
I’ve made two Twine games so far. One of them, Dog Tycoon, I was the head artist and co-writer for. I created digital 2D assets both using my own art and existing photographs, as well as scripted many points of the story and dialogue. The other game I worked on cannot be shared at this time. It is a text-based game, and I completed roughly 1/3rd of the text for this game.
To mention a few games that are artistically inspiring… I have extremely widely varied taste in games. The game I play the most is World of Warcraft, which I would say is actually artistically inspiring in it’s own way. To stick with such a clean and well recognised art style for 17 years even while updating the graphics is an incredible feat. Other games I think are inspiring are Okami, Suikoden II, Spyro: Reignited, the Silent Hill trilogy, and Hypnospace Outlaw.

I Love all the small details you manage to put into your pieces, from either the tufts of fur or the branching horns or the small outline glow that helps your art pop, they all coalesce to help your art come off as flowing and alive.
Badge: Striking
Your art is really unique and the vibrancy of colors makes it really striking. I love the art doll, it looks super well done and cute!
Badge: Inventive
That stuffed plush is so cute!! I wanna reach through the screen and give it a big ol’ hug. Really impressive work with your various mediums. Out of curiosity, when you say you loved cats, do you mean warrior cats? I find a lot of online animal artists have their roots in that series (myself included, haha).
yep, warrior cats! i grew up drawing on the warriorcatsforums

I feel like you have a good sense of where to put details and where to leave them out, which can be difficult with textured creatures. That dinosaur creature is really well illustrated and I spent a lot of time looking at it.
Badge: Impressive
Your dragon-like illustrations and pieces are quite impressive. You have a great understanding of their anatomy and structure, which I can assume came from lots and lots of practice. Loved the featured illustration the most.
Badge Given: Impressive
I like to see this detailed work that has a strong theme. The illustrations go a long way in showing the personality of the character.
Familiar: I love how you’ve taken pretty well recognized mythical creatures or dinosaurs, and you’ve given them new personalities through your style and color palettes.
I think I will go with gorgeous since your 2D animation and the doll were amazing and very detailed.
Familiar.
Wow your art is really beautiful! I love that your furry / monster characters look realistic while still being very stylized and unique. We have a lot in common!! I also grew up on warrior cats and drawing furries, dragons, wolves, cats, etc etc. so your introduction made me happy. I still primarily draw furry art (it pays well :’)) I would love to see more of your stuff or if you’ve made any WC fanart! Do you have a Toyhouse / character database? Do you post your art on any social media?
i havent made WC fanart in years but uhhh i may be doing so for this class… my twitter is https://twitter.com/nightofratatosk and my toyhouse is https://toyhou.se/Knightofratatosk !

I think ‘clean’ or ‘polished’ might be better badges though. It is impressive that your work over many different mediums all maintain really clean and sophisticated forms.

I especially like your first piece shown! The detail in the illustration is very good and I really appreciate the time you took on the lighting effect!
Gorgeous
Bro all of your art looks so pretty and amazing! So many pretty colors and wonderful designs.

Your digital paintings have really nice contrast, especially the cover image. I find it cool that you have been drawing from such a young age, and would love to see more of your work!
Detailed!
I am really surprised by the anthropomorphic animal design. The character with the cane rolled on the tail is the most special one, while retaining the characteristics of the animal, it also incorporates the unique posture of the human being: shielding the sun with your hand to increase your line of sight; standing on other objects for support. Rolling up the cane with the tail gives the picture imagination. Very worth learning!
