Hello. I am Adam Moran. I am an IMGD tech major who wants to make good games in the future. Video games have been a part of my life for as long as I can remember, starting from the SNES, Sega Genesis, and Game Boy Advance; it is a passion that I retain to this day.<\/p>\n
While I do not consider myself to be much of an artist, I have taken art as my humanities depth. As such, I have taken Essentials of Art and Figure Drawing to develop a traditional basis for what little skill that I may have. However, I prefer working in the realm of digital art. To this end, I have taken Animation 1 and 2 (working primarily with Maya, but I have experience with 2D animation, and the principles are the same), Digital Painting, and Character Design. As a result, I am reasonably comfortable with Photoshop and Maya.<\/p>\n
As an IMGD tech major, I have had to take a number of Computer Science classes, including Intro to Program Design, Object-Oriented Design Concepts, Systems Programming Concepts, Software Engineering, Algorithms, Intro to Machine Organization and Assembly, and Database Systems 1. This is further supplemented by design-focused classes, including Human Computer Interactions and Digital Game Design 1 and 2.<\/p>\n
In terms of other creative arts that I have participated in, my main focus would be writing. Writing is my humanities breadth, mostly because I am only really interested in writing fiction as opposed to research papers. To this end, I had taken Creative Writing Fiction, Storytelling in Games, and Writing for Games 1 and 2. I also have some limited experience in sound design. I have worked in Audacity and Reaper for editing sound, though I doubt that I would be able to make my own sounds. I like music, but I have no experience with actually making music. I have experience with theater, but that is mostly from before high school, let alone college, so I wouldn\u2019t really count that. I also take lots of pictures of landscapes whenever I travel; it\u2019s nothing professional or school related, and it\u2019s all taken from a phone camera, but I at least like to think that I have some level of competence with shot composition.<\/p>\n
I suppose most, if not all, of my creative inspiration comes from the media that I consume, which would primarily include video games, movies, and anime.<\/p>\n
My goal with art is to better serve the games that I want to make. I want to write the narrative that the game follows and design the characters, both narratively and visually, that carry the story forward.<\/p>\n
I did not bring my artwork from Essentials of Art or Figure Drawing with me to campus and therefore can\u2019t post them, leaving only work that I have digital access to. Unfortunately, the flash drive with most of my artwork doesn\u2019t work. As a result, most of my artwork has been effectively destroyed, which is why I am primarily including pictures that I have taken from my phone. I do, however, have an animation from Animation 1. I was so proud of it; keyword being was. Now, I can\u2019t help but see all the flaws that I\u2019d want to fix. But such is the life of an artist: cringing at your old work and wondering how you missed those glaring flaws. I might be blind without my glasses, but hindsight is always 20\/20.<\/p>\n
