Hi everyone, I’m exceedingly late posting this, but that’s certainly on brand. In the context of this class I’m a senior returning from an extended leave of absence that started early 2020 and then kept going, where I’ve taken an odd collection of classes ranging from classical English literature to linear algebra and now back to art. I enrolled as a robotics major before having a crisis of faith in my sophomore year, deciding it would be less ethically murky to distract people from their jobs instead of building my best replacements for them, and switched into IMGD. The IMGD program track is fuzzier than most, and my navigation of it has been downright hairy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wild though it seemed to nobody on my diagnosis of ADHD early this year, access to aid that actually helps me has been transformative, and has allowed me to address the underlying crap-heap depressing me. While I’ve always accepted my position as an eccentric, never before in my life have I experienced such clarity of self and purpose as now buoys me. My greatest disappointment remains my disengagement from classes whose production didn’t live up to my dangerously unrealistic standards. I built games only to delete them, and am left with only odd remnants of old projects to remind myself of the work I did. Regardless, art is alive and I’ve emerged to live!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I’m still making stuff, mostly as no-one has figured out how to stop me! I do non-game art that’s wide-ranging if primarily sculptural, but having some experience with most physical media, digital art is a experiential chasm that consumes me. Game design is my perfect hole-y trifecta of writing, art, and technology that yawns deeper with every tool published or game made; a universe in a cave to explore and carve deeper. I’ve struggled to feel engaged in my work, but interactive intersectional transmedia art is downright electrifying. I remain inspired by games that a subtle wonder that only rewards pushing into the dark to answer the call of the void with more unanswered questions; Sunless Sea and Fallen London, The Stanley Parable, Portal, and Inside come to mind. I want nothing less than to make art that leaves me wondering ever further.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
