Growing in many different environments and being in a farm and city situations I noticed not until recently that by examining farm behavior I noticed food that did not make the market was thrown away and food in the market were thrown away even though it was safe to eat. Going back to the city it was sort of shocking to find that there were people who could not find or buy enough food for there families and there seemed to be a solution on how to get a surplus of edible food to people who needed it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Currently in America 54 million are under nutrition and there were 81.4 billion pounds of food that went to waste. That is about 1,500 pounds per person. Most of the confusion comes from reading labels in the grocery store or throwing out food because it is the cheapest option. Food waste creates a lot of methane that is released in the air and it is the largest waste found at landfills (about 26%).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The green orb is the food waste sitting on a plate and every dot represents an under nutrition American. The shield is showing that many paths are excluded for the people to get to the food they need and the dots are moving frantically because the statistics to how people get food is always fluctuating greatly. I would like to hear everyone’s opinions on how to get the message across and aspects that would be cool for this work. I am thinking about adding an animated background to go along with the moving food and people dots. I like the idea of flies swarming around a plate of food to show statistics but I am kind of stuck on what the background should be to accompany it. This project hits home for me because I find joy in cooking for myself and other people. Also I have always been in a habit of buying food I need in order to decrease the amount of food wasted. I found it very interesting researching that a place that throws away so much food has so many people who are under nutrition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For my question I was wondering how to better represent the food and whether to make the data more detailed, the current texture is temporary and for representing food what is the first thing that comes to your mind? I also am thinking about changing the background to be a foggy gradient and I would like to hear opinions on what would enhance the message.
