For my Final Project, I have decided to go with the theme of Memories. The idea came to me when I began to think about how memories are not always what they seem to be, and everyone has a different perspective on how events played out. Usually a memory becomes more consistent and clear when you try to recall it with someone who was also there.
In this interactive piece, two users stand on each of end of the box. The box has 2 settings per user, Fog and the color associated with their corresponding side. In the middle is a plain of understanding, where two minds and their worlds clash together. When touching the plain, a random new image and song is brought to the screen. Each user has to hold on to a coin, and play with the settings they are provided on each side. The two must work together to clear up the memory, or as best as they can.
The art uses a makey makey interface for the physical interactions, and the output is controlled by Max msp. The art has up to 4 different scenes with their own music and image.
The effects over the videos do make it feel like they’re fragments of memories being put together.
I find the visuals striking and they remind me of a VHS tape playing. Are the sensors for the makey makey sensitive to where they are touched? One opinion that I have is that I would try to hide the stray cables underneath the box. To do this, I would draw a connection on the bottom that would either connect through a hole in the page or on the side. This would allow for the cables to not be seen, yet maintain a connection.
The music and alternating, distorted effects remind me of when I’m trying to think of something and it begins to come together in my head. Very neat concept!
The visuals are super rad! The effect is very dreamlike.
The visuals in the video do give me that nostalgic, surreal feeling. And I like the graphite control board
I really like the audio you chose and how the videos are overlaid, it definitely creates an attention-grabbing project, and a sense of a fuzzy reality, definitely communicates your message!
