There are still a few technical problems to iron out, and I still want to see if I can spruce up the physical component’s aesthetic, but other than that it is relatively functional!
I was never able to get that conductive clay, but I’ve found that using string still works very well and I think it still gets the original message of not having enough time or energy to do everything in a single day.
The placement of the nodes hasn’t changed much since the last iteration; I make it harder to make time for things that we would want to do for ourselves because often times students get into a work-first mentality and don’t let themselves set time aside for other activities, or worse those activities become a source of stress. But they are still possible!
Most of the animations themselves are still drafts and sketches, but they each have a little bit of movement to get the feeling of seeing a snapshot of a person’s day (short but not static). I lined all of them up here:
On the technical side I ran into three main problems: most annoying being I ran out of inputs for the amount of activities I wanted to include (not sure what I can do about that though). The second problem being that I need to find a way to insert the wakeup animation first and the sleeping animation last, and the last one being that I keep getting accidental repeat inputs whenever I touch one node. If anyone has any suggestions on how to help with that I am open to them (I’ve also dropped a pic of the code).

I want to keep trying to polish the work, but I’ve been happy with the progress overall!
I find the visuals very detailed and interesting. One thing you could do for your issue with the sleep cycle is have a counter run when the animation starts playing. Once the counter reaches the max value, have it then go to the next animation. Did you add anything else to the circuit underneath, in order to fix any of the issues you were having? One opinion I have is by making some of the processes more automated, you would have a nicer flow to the animation. For example, you could have inputs categorized as times that can’t reach others at similar times.
One thing is made clear about this piece, and that’s the simple fact that you’re a master of backgrounds. Every small detail makes it so clear what each location is meant to be, and the use of foreshortening and scale make it look so lifelike. Regardless of what you used for the art, I was wondering how you personally want to make the planning board look? Is there any color or design you were interested in? Have any of the other classmates given you ideas you liked?
This concept is amazing! Nailing down something like time with a limited resource like string is perfect for an interactive art project like this. Hope the tech stuff clears up. I noticed the backgrounds, and hand drawn aesthetic, it has a very comfortable feel to it.
The project seems to have a lot of options for how the user can spend the day. What range(s) of activities did you try to cover in this project? I like the interface where a string connects the possibilities for the day, but I am not sure what each of those options are.
I like the concept and the interactive part a lot. I particularly like the idea of having a string that is limited in length so the audience cannot get arond every signle activity in one day. A way to go around the tech stuff could maybe be you first let max determine which inputs are activated and put them into a list, and then play the animation. Not sure how practical that will be.
I really like the concept of connecting everything with string and seeing the end result for everything. On the technical side I do not know how to fix the problems you are running into. If there were no limitations, how many activities were you planning on adding?
The animations are very detailed and thought through! I like the fact that the string used to connect the tinfoil “screws” are not that long as it shows the lack of time we have in a day to complete everything we’d like. I’m not too familiar with the technical issues, but the repetition of scenes like the lecture and studying is pretty realistic to a day at college haha
I enjoy your use and execution of limited time through making a daily planner. I’m also amazed of how many of the makey makey inputs you used
